Description
A crate assembled with slots and tabs: the end walls (with a hand hole) are on the left and right, the long walls fit into their slots, and the base has tabs that pass through slots in all the walls. The bottom edge has feet and the top edge is shaped to match the bottom – the crates stack on top of each other.

What it is used for
Modular systems are assembled from a few repeating parts and are easy to extend or resize – handy for short runs and prototypes.

Material and thickness
SlotCrate is cut from plywood and other sheet materials. The material thickness can be set from 2 to 6 mm (default 3 mm); tabs, slots and clearances are recalculated automatically with every change.
Assembly
The parts are assembled with locking joints – tabs and slots that lock without screws. Kerf compensation is set in the configurator, and a drop of wood glue fixes the joint permanently if needed.
At standard dimensions the set has 3 kinds of parts; the configurator nests them on a sheet and calculates the cutting time and an approximate price.
Questions and answers
Which files can I get for SlotCrate?
For laser cutting – DXF, SVG and PDF with the layout of all parts; for preview – STL, OBJ and a PNG image. Files are downloaded from the configurator, and the terms are on the “Pricing” page.
What dimensions can I set?
Dimensions are set in the configurator: length 100–700 mm; width 80–500 mm; height 50–400 mm. The configurator recalculates all parts automatically and shows the 3D model in real time.
Which material and thickness should I use?
Plywood and other sheet materials from 2 to 6 mm thick work well; the default is 3 mm.
Do I need glue or screws?
No screws are needed – the parts hold with their own tabs and slots. A drop of wood glue is optional, for a permanent joint.
How many parts are in the set and how long does cutting take?
At standard dimensions the set has 3 kinds of parts. The configurator nests the parts on a sheet and shows an approximate cutting time and price for your machine and material.
What you get
